Make Your Move… Today

image (57)

For every indie filmmaker clawing their way into the greatest business on Earth.

💡 So You’ve Got an Idea…

Maybe it’s a spark. Maybe it’s a full script. Either way, the vision is real—and you’re ready to make your blockbuster.

But before you shout “Action!”, let’s talk about what really matters. The stuff they don’t cover in film school. The real path to getting it made.

🤑 First Things First…

If you’re already connected in the industry, have a wealthy uncle, or a bank account that rivals a studio’s—stop reading. Seriously. This post isn’t for you.

This post is for the rest of us:

  • The night-shift screenwriters
  • The self-funded directors
  • The indie dreamers with nothing but grit and a Google Doc

❌ Don’t Take “No” for an Answer

Yeah, yeah, it’s a cliché. But there’s truth in it.
Your job isn’t just to chase yes—it’s to eliminate every reason someone might say no to your project.

And there are a lot of ways people will say no.

🎭 Contests & Competitions: Helpful or Hype?

There’s no shortage of screenwriting contests, labs, and “breakthrough” opportunities out there. Some are valuable. Others? Not so much. Many are just polished-up ways for other people to make money off your dreams.

I’ve been there.

Hopefully, the winners walk away with something meaningful. But whether you win, lose, or get ghosted, every experience teaches you something. Every submission, rejection, and rewrite makes you sharper. Stronger. More prepared.

🤝 The Real Industry Secret: Connections

Here’s something no one tells you early on:
Sometimes, the most important person in the room isn’t the exec behind the desk—it’s the person sitting next to you in the lobby.

This industry thrives on relationships. It’s a people business. Treat everyone like they matter—because they do. Build sideways, not just upward.

  • Collaborate with peers
  • Help other artists
  • Share resources
  • Stay in touch
  • Be generous with credit

Everyone knows someone who can help you move forward.

🎥 Budget Warning: Passion vs. Payroll

If you’re paying people who aren’t creatively or emotionally invested in your project, you’re in trouble. Fast.

A crew that’s only there for the paycheck will burn through your budget—and your patience. But if your team believes in the story, they’ll go the extra mile. They’ll solve problems. They’ll stay late. They’ll care.

In indie filmmaking, passion is worth more than money. It’s the engine that makes the impossible possible.

✅ Final Thought: Start Where You Are

Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for the “right time.” Don’t wait for someone to hand you the golden ticket.

Make your move.

Not next month.
Not when the budget’s perfect.
Not after one more rewrite.

Today.
